About Us

The Institut Biblique du Québec (IBQ) is the only French-language Bible college affiliated with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. In partnership with Laval University, we offer accredited academic programs, including a Bachelor’s degree and a Certificate in Theology. Since 2018, IBQ has also made it possible to take courses in English.

OUR IMPACT

The Institut Biblique du Québec is the French-language training institution of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. While it primarily serves the four districts of Eastern Ontario, Western Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes, its mission extends to French-speaking communities across Canada. IBQ offers robust ministry preparation, equipping all those who feel called—whether to serve in a formal ministry role or to grow as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.

WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE

At IBQ, you’ll find more than just quality academic training—you’ll become part of a vibrant community. Our students benefit from personal mentoring, individual follow-up, and unique opportunities to grow spiritually and serve in ministry. IBQ is deeply connected to a wide network of Pentecostal churches across Quebec and Canada, and our academic partnership with Laval University ensures recognized university accreditation. Every student is also paired with a dedicated coach to support their personal and ministerial development.

OUR STORY

IBQ

Founded in 1997 through the merger of the Institut biblique Bérée and the Collège biblique Québec, the Institut Biblique du Québec (IBQ) is a Bible college affiliated with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. It offers university-level theological training, preparing individuals for ministry. IBQ serves as a center for the study of Scripture, biblical languages (Hebrew and Ancient Greek), and Christian, Protestant, and Pentecostal theology. Since 2013, it has been an academic partner of Laval University’s Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies.

Following the emergence of Pentecostalism in Canada and Quebec, Pentecostal communities established institutions to train future pastors and advance the evangelization of French-speaking Canada.

In 1941, the Institut biblique Bérée—the first French-language Pentecostal Bible college—was founded in Montreal. Meanwhile, in Quebec City, Rev. Allen Bowen and Donald Martin launched the Formation Timothé program in 1976, which later became known as Collège Biblique Québec.

In January 1997, as part of a broader restructuring of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada, these two institutions merged to form the Institut Biblique du Québec (IBQ). Since then, IBQ has played a central role in the training and credentialing of pastors within the Pentecostal fellowship.

IBQ offers French-language theological education across Eastern Canada, under the direction of four districts of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada: Eastern Ontario, Western Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes.

These same four districts also oversee Master College and Seminary, which serves the same region by providing training exclusively in English.

In 2013, IBQ became an official partner of the Faculty of Theology and Religious Sciences at Laval University. Through this partnership, IBQ offers a microprogram, certificate programs, and a Bachelor’s degree in theology from Université Laval—delivered on IBQ’s own campus.

In 2025, the Institut Biblique du Québec (IBQ) entered into a strategic partnership with Horizon College & Seminary and Master’s College and Seminary (MCS) to offer English-language theological education within the province of Quebec. This Spirit-led initiative is specifically designed to serve English-speaking students in the Quebec District of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada, enabling them to pursue high-quality Christian education and ministry training without having to leave the province.

While Horizon and MCS provide the academic instruction, IBQ remains deeply involved in the student journey, offering mentoring, coaching, and pastoral care. French-speaking students continue to receive university-accredited education through IBQ’s long-standing partnership with Université Laval. This new collaboration strengthens IBQ’s role as a key hub for Pentecostal theological education in both official languages across Eastern Canada.
