Bachelor’s of Theology Program
Bachelor of Theology (90 Credits)
The Bachelor of Theology degree from IBQ in partnership with Laval University allows students to have a deeper understanding of Scripture and theology for a better anchoring of their own faith and approach to ministry:
- Bible and theology courses for a better knowledge of the Bible and God;
- History courses to better appreciate the origin and depth of different dogmas and to avoid the same mistakes of the past;
- Ethics courses to better understand today’s society for an appropriate and contextualized ministerial approach;
- Counselling and practical theology courses for the development of ministerial competencies;
- Internships supervised by qualified mentor-practitioners for on-the-job learning;
- Courses on Pentecostal origins and distinctives for better self-understanding and experience and to articulate it clearly to others
This training can lead to different professions (in the ecclesiastical or public world) such as pastor, missionary, evangelist, chaplain, pastoral animator, community worker, and others. Following this program, the student can also apply for a Master’s degree.
This program of study meets the academic requirements for a « Licensed Minister » credential to be a minister in the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (PAOC), the largest family of evangelical churches in Canada. Please note that graduation does not automatically result in the activation of a credential, as this is a separate process. A student who does not wish to have a letter of credential can still enroll in this program.
*The bachelor of Theology is only available in partnership with the University Laval. English students choosing to study through IBQ only (without University Laval) can enroll in the Diploma of Theology program instead, which contains the same amount of credits and almost the same list of courses than the bachelor’s program as described here (with a few variations).
This program, if taken in English exclusively, is only available on a part-time basis; also some of the courses must be completed online while others are only available onsite in the Montreal area.
